"A lifetime’s love of, and immersion in, fwd UK dance musics has prompted him to chase a particular dragon of syncopated swerve and cavernous psychoacoustics to logical, next-level depths diffusing that dread pressure with an adroit, tendon-twitching precision and tactility" - boomkat

Carrier returns to his eponymous imprint with Thresholds, following 2025’s critically acclaimed Rhythm Immortal album for Modern Love. Three further expositions in experimental soundsystem pressure, maintaining oblique forms from anew.

As Guy Brewer’s sound advances ever further towards that precipice, his over twenty years at the production vanguard culls it near breaking point. On his latest EP, his insatiable thirst for this measured chaos omits some of his most cryptic transmissions to date.

Thresholds continues the self-titled series’ obsession with deviant patterns, but tolls with greater breadth. Its three tracks embark on steadier pathways, exploring unmarked territories with more space and freedom than its predecessors. Carrier grips tight the tense decay found between these lines, encouraging a rhythmically daring intent that constantly teeters but never strays.

Another volume of peerless electronics from Carrier. — (via Label)

When Guy Brewer first adopted the Carrier moniker in 2023, there was quite a bit of discussion about how best to describe the music he was making. Three years later, that discussion has largely ceased, probably because most people have realized that the chilly, dubwise project is essentially a genre unto itself.

That acceptance does make it difficult for music journalists—myself included—to adequately describe Carrier’s work, but it’s also a testament to the fact that the Belgium-based UK artist continues to break new ground, even as the electronic music landscape has become flooded with murky reverb trails and various strains of Basic Channel worship. On Thresholds—Brewer’s first release since last year’s acclaimed Rhythm Immortal album—he heads straight into the clouds, his foreboding tones and textures defying gravity even as his agitated rhythms writhe and scamper on the ground below. — (via First Floor)
