He is a longtime associate of Low End Theory, an influential club night dedicated to experimental hip-hop and electronic music, often considered the epicenter of the L.A. beat scene. Associated with Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder Records, he made his production debut in the late 2000s with a series of EPs. Born William Benjamin Bensussen, he originally comes from San Diego, California, whose downtown Gaslamp District's bar scene inspired him to name himself the Gaslamp Killer in disgust for much of the patronage. Upon relocating to Los Angeles, he found a niche for himself amid the city's massive underground party scene and ultimately found a home for himself as a resident DJ at the weekly event Low End Theory, which resulted in a series of club-sponsored podcasts. He also released a series of mix CDs, among them \u003cem\u003eGaslamp Killers\u003c\/em\u003e (2007), I\u003cem\u003et's a Rocky Road \u003c\/em\u003e(2007), I\u003cem\u003e Spit on Your Grave\u003c\/em\u003e (2008), \u003cem\u003eHell and the Lake of Fire Are Waiting for You!\u003c\/em\u003e (2009), and \u003cem\u003eAll Killer\u003c\/em\u003e (2009), the latter a label showcase for the London-based world psychedelia imprint Finders Keepers Records. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eJason Wool is a pianist \u0026amp; jazz musician, cherished former artist in the bass\/edm scene (as woolymammoth), and together they have produced a\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e superb 33 minute trip of avant-garde experimental jazz, meets bass music, fused with sound design psychedelia. Kelly Hibbert of Almachrome mastering said this of the music: “Imagine something like Stanley Clark, David Axelrod, and Aphex Twin – if they were all 20 years old today and they got together to jam while on heroic doses. Absolute face-melting mayhem”.
